Background

Gordon grew up in Brandon, MB. He studied commerce at the University of Manitoba for 2 years and, then, did his law degree at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University in Toronto. He was called to the bar in 1980. Gordon advises entrepreneurs and managers about day to day problems and helps them consummate business transactions. He frequently works with other professional advisors, primarily accountants and financial planners, to plan and implement tax strategies and to assess and reduce business risks. Gordon is often retained by other law firms or accountants to implement settlements arising from matrimonial or estate litigation or mediation.

Gordon’s approach to practicing law

Most of my clients own and operate their own businesses. I strive to get to know my client and to learn about his or her business and personal situation so I can better focus on achieving the client’s goals. My professional interests include buying and selling businesses (M&A work), buying and selling apartment buildings, hotels, and other commercial real estate, setting up and reorganizing closely held corporations and trusts (estate planning), and shareholders agreements. I enjoy collaborating with my client’s accountant or other financial planner to formulate a strategy suited to the client’s situation.

I also like running, cycling, skiing, books, music, movies, hiking, and travelling. I’m a dilettante.
